Leadership Development Plan

Mission Statement

I am a very passionate about my work as an interpreter and instructor.  My goal is to develop and lead the next generation of ASL interpreters.  I personally like to see a Deaf and Hearing partnership that leads the way for future generations.

Vision Statement

I see a field where interpreters and Deaf community members work together to provide the best services available to our consumers. Professionally this goal will only work to improve our relationships between interpreters and Deaf clients.

Values and Goals

I value the dedication our interpreters put forth into their work.  I value the feedback and desire to help our interpreters to continually improve by our Deaf consumers.  We rely on that feed back so we are always at the top of our game.  There are both important to me personally and professionally.

Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats

Team Player

I am all about the overall team.  We are working towards a better and stronger community

Taking on too much

I want to be the support everyone needs and sometimes I need to allow others to step in.

Building a stronger system

We have the chance to train and prepare interpreters better than what has come before us.  Now is the time.

Interpreter Mills

Schools are too worried about numbers and graduating classes.  This has a negative impact on the community at large when under prepared interpreters are put into the field.

Operational Personal Strategies

To provide top quality ASL interpreters out of college.

Implement more live grading from a panel of community members.

Use feedback from the community to find the weakness that are needing to be address.

The team of instructors will be responsible for using feedback to improve instructional material presented in class.

This turnaround will take a few years, but with the communities support the foundation will be built in 2-3 years
